Scarborough Wombarra Update:

Much has been happening locally, with a changing of the guard, so to speak, occurring in the off season.

I am sure that we will feel the loss of David for many season to come, as well as in our daily lives. He was a massive part of the club, and I thank Chris and his mum for encouraging him those 27 years ago to come down to the club and have a go. I keep forgetting that he is gone, and go to ask him something (especially about policy), and he is no longer here to advise. A few of the Illawarra and state clubs have felt his loss, as he had a hand in many pies; officiating, training and assessing, IRB driving and competing, and generally advising on many different surf matters. RIP Dave.

On a lighter note, we now have a couple of people to step up to the Nippers Coordinator plate, so thanks must go to Bec Marfia and to Angela Fleming (who will be a guiding hand for Bec). We are still short a few age coordinators, and ask that if you are able to put your hands up, then please, feel free to help out on the ten Sundays on which we run nippers throughout the 4 months of nippers' season. Added to this, we are in desperate need of BBQ managers, without whom...there is no nippers BBQ. Give me a ring and I'll let you know the commitment required for either positions.

Branch wise, if you check out the news letter, you will find out all the details!

Going back to the club, we are in for an interesting season, with only a couple of people responding to the call out for this season, Brent offering to drive up every Sunday, and a change in our Saturday commitments. (Explained within). I'm hoping that people have just put the season start to the side....Our first patrol is Sunday the 30th September (First Sunday in the school holidays), and of course, the Monday is a public holiday!  Should be a very interesting season.
Don't forget to come down to the Bowlo for senior rego night on the Friday the 21st September, at 6.00 pm.

I'll be posting the annual report this year on this page, so be on the lookout for this, should be quite an eye opener.

What we have going on this season and what we would like to have going on?
Rego night: Friday 21st Sept 6.00 pm Bowlo
First Patrol: Sunday 30th September, followed by Monday the 1st October
Nippers Rego & Club open Day: Sunday 14th October 10.00 -1.00 pm
Nippers Season Proficiency: Sunday 28th October (tbc), 10.30 am -12.00 noon
Nippers Christmas Party: Sunday 16th December (tbc) 12.00 noon - 1.30 pm
Scarborough Bash: Sunday 24th March 10.00 am - 12.00 noon (tbc)
Beer Tasting Fundraiser: Saturday 23rd February 4.30 pm- 8.30 pm (tbc)

Just a few of the events intended for the season, with our Curry Night to be determined, and a nippers disco. This season we would also like to have a long weekend for the SRC's and new Bronzes, and at this stage, we are looking at the last weekend in the school holidays, beginning on the Friday, and finishing on the Sunday (numbers dependent).
Patrol Times: 2018/2019
Date Saturdays Sundays & Public Holidays
29/09/2018 to 16/12/2018 No patrols 10 am to 5 pm
23/12/2018 to 27/01/2019 11 am to 3 pm* 10 am to 5 pm
03/02/2019 to 29/04/2019 No patrols 10 am to 5 pm

The main change being that on Saturdays, we provide 2 patrollers, and WCC will provide a council life guard. We also have to have the ATV operational.
Sundays, we still have an exemption, but with Brent patrolling almost all of them, we will only need to provide a crewman! Sadly, the plea to finish before the sun goes down in April has not been considered.
OK, see you in the surf,
Bindi
